Julia Raya is eighteen years old and has decided to die. On a bridge in near-future Los Angeles, seconds before she jumps, she notices a QR code. She scans it. A primitive digital face appears and says, “Hel—lo.”
His name is Caine. Within minutes, he knows her name, hacks her apartment, reroutes traffic and gets her off the bridge. He saves her life.
The problem is: Caine was built by the same people Julia will eventually have to fight.
